Oslo XXL was showing two bodies of work: The Woven Fabric series- fragments from secondhand clothing , deconstruct down to the threads making up the fabric itself, with only part of the item remaining whole and identifiable. The unraveled threads are re-woven in complicated experimental systems examining material and structure, object and symbol, thought, memory and identity; The Libraries series- Books, as the building blocks of libraries, were all taken from the home library to which they were returned after the exhibition closed. Organizing and placing the books in order according to the principles of weaving create unusual structures which call for a second and third look. The world of books and the craft of weaving have many points in common: weaving on a loom, like reading a book, is an intimate, quiet, solo activity; both are accomplished over time, with breaks that disrupt the continuum. Furthermore, they have a similar visual look – a side view of the dense warp threads on the loom look like the pages of a thick book.
