On the Edge. Israeli Paper the Third Paper Biennale
Muza - Erets Israel Museum, Tel Aviv
Curator: Anat Gatenio
2017
The works share the iconic form of a school notebook. Minimalist markings—two red vertical lines at the edge of the blank page intersected by blue horizontal lines—immediately connect us to a world of personal and collective associations related to time and place. The grid, constructed from vertical and horizontal lines and characteristic of different types of notebooks, connects to the world of weaving.
Two groups make up the work: in one, the pages of the notebook are built from thin cotton threads (warp) and paper threads; in the other, the notebook pages themselves are taken apart and woven anew, creating a necessary deviation.
From the exhibition text: The works turn a common industrial object into a singular, beautiful piece of craftsmanship. They allow us to pause and notice what usually goes unnoticed, capturing a moment before it fades away.
