The Israeli Pavilion at the London Design biennale
Curators: Galit Gaon and Hila Shaltieli
2018
Instead of bringing an installation or a pre-planned exhibition to the Israeli pavilion of the Design Biennale in London, the pavilion curators decided to exhibit the actual act of designing. That was the inception of Exposed Nerves – a studio for multidisciplinary design, engaged in issues of identity, culture, and society, in which the process was the core interest and not the final product. At any given moment, four designers were at work in the studio referring to themes given weekly on current issues. The creative process – including discussions, sketches, and conclusions – were exposed to visitors during the three weeks of the Biennale.
“Exposed Nerves” was interesting analogy to the tension of life in Israel, raising questions about our ability to cope with it materially and spiritually and what happens when the string snaps.
